Minecraft Adds Its First New Dimension in 14 Years: Meet The Sift

Minecraft is about to get a fourth dimension. Mojang has revealed The Sift, a new realm that will sit alongside the Overworld, the Nether and The End when it launches on both Java and Bedrock editions in 2027.

It is a big moment for the long-running sandbox. The End was the last dimension added to the game, arriving in 2011, which means players have gone roughly 14 years without a new plane of existence to explore. Since then, Mojang's updates have focused on reworking existing spaces, from new biomes and caves to structures, mobs and gameplay systems, rather than opening an entirely new world.

Mojang has not shared a lot of detail in the initial announcement, so what The Sift looks like, how players will reach it and what it will offer remain open questions. The studio has confirmed the target year and that it will be available across both major editions, which keeps the two versions in step for a major content drop.

For a game with such an enormous and dedicated community, a new dimension carries weight. The Nether and The End both reshaped how people play, adding new resources, progression goals and building opportunities. Expect plenty of speculation about what The Sift will bring, and how it might change survival routes, technical builds and multiplayer servers.

With a launch still more than a year away, there is time for Mojang to reveal more. For now, the message to fans is simple: a new dimension is coming, and it has been a very long time since the last one.
