Valve Ditches Hand-Picked Steam Front Page for Personalized Deals
PC Gaming·September 30, 2026

Valve is rethinking one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in PC gaming. The company has announced that Steam will move away from a manually curated front page during sales and promotions, and toward personalized recommendations shaped by each user's tastes and purchase history. The change is slated to roll out in early 2027.
Until now, Valve staff have chosen which discounted games earn a spot in a limited set of fixed slots. That meant only a small slice of games on sale ever got prime visibility, and landing one of those slots often came down to relationships, pitches or plain luck.
Valve says early experiments point to a big shift. In tests, up to 10 times as many games appeared each day in the Discounts & Events section, and the company reports measurable gains in store page visits and wishlist additions.
For smaller developers and publishers, the implications are significant. Teams without the marketing budgets of AAA studios have long struggled to compete for attention on the storefront. A system driven by individual recommendations, rather than a hand-built calendar, could give them a fairer shot at reaching interested players.
Valve has already paused scheduling curated placements in the Weekend Deals, Midweek Deals and Daily Deals sections. It also plans to release new and updated tools soon that will help developers manage their discounts and sale events.
"Our goal is to let developers focus on crafting the most compelling games and deals for customers, and not spend time trying to convince someone at Valve to feature their products," Valve wrote.
The announcement lands just ahead of the week-long Steam Autumn Sale, which begins October 1. A new Next Fest follows at the end of October. Themed events for the rest of 2026 include Steam Scream V Fest, Auto-Battler RPG Fest and Cooking Fest, before the Steam Winter Sale arrives in December.
