Valor Mortis Casts Behemoth Frontman Nergal in Star-Studded Soulslike Lineup

Valor Mortis has unveiled its main voice cast, and one name stands out: Adam "Nergal" Darski, the frontman of black metal band Behemoth, will play Captain Raphael.

Anyone who has heard Darski's growls and screams on a Behemoth record can guess the kind of intensity he might bring to the role. Voice work is not new territory for him, either. He voiced The Black Cat in 2022's Blacktail and narrated 2018's Apocalipsis: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

He is in strong company. Jennifer English, whose credits include Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, plays The Shrike. James Alexander, seen in Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Crimson Desert, takes the lead as William Dowsett. Vincent Cassel, known for Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen, plays Napoleon Bonaparte.

The rest of the cast fills out the supporting roles. Mars Lipowski, who played Sobieslaw "Gromsko" Kosciuszko in the Call of Duty franchise, is Lucjan Skawinski. Will De Renzy-Martin, who played Coen in The Blood of Dawnwalker, voices James Stewart. Yvan Chamouiseau is Louis Moreau.

Valor Mortis is a first-person action soulslike from the studio behind Ghostrunner. It is set in an alternate 19th century Eastern Europe, where Napoleon's endless war has unleashed a supernatural plague. Players follow William as he tries to survive against his former comrades, who have turned into undead monsters.

The game arrives on Xbox Series X|S, PS5 and PC on October 13 at $40. The developer says the price reflects a crowded fall release calendar. The same congestion pushed the launch back from its original September 24 date by a few weeks, since September was already packed with big releases.
