The Witcher 3 Hits An All-Time Steam Peak With Its Remaster

More than ten years after launch, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt is bigger on Steam than it has ever been. The release of The Witcher 3 Remastered has sent the game climbing the charts, with concurrent users peaking at 120,975.

That number beats the old record of 103,329, set in January 2020 when the Netflix Witcher series premiered. The new peak clears it by a wide margin. Steam is also only part of the picture. The game is sold on GOG and the Epic Games Store, and it's available on PS5, Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S, so the real player count is almost certainly much higher.

The remaster brings a range of technical and graphical upgrades to the original 2015 game. It is also a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the game. That matters given the scale of the install base. The Witcher 3 has sold 65 million copies worldwide as of May 2026, and it has been discounted often. A lot of those owners likely came back to see what had changed.

The timing makes the result more notable. Publishers have crowded the calendar with big releases to get clear of GTA 6's November launch. Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Control Resonant, Marvel's Wolverine and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave all arrived within weeks of each other, and live-service games continue to hold their spots on the charts. The Witcher 3 still managed to break through.

For fans, there is more on the way. A new expansion for The Witcher 3, Songs of the Past, is due in 2027, and The Witcher 4 could arrive as early as 2028. CD Projekt Red is rumored to be developing a multiplayer Witcher game. The studio has also confirmed it is working with Scopely on a new mobile game based on one of its franchises, which could be either The Witcher or Cyberpunk.
