Naughty Dog Has Two New The Last of Us Projects Cooking, but Intergalactic Stays Hidden Until 2027

Naughty Dog is not done with Joel, Ellie and the world they survived in. In a letter marking The Last of Us Day 2026, studio head Neil Druckmann confirmed that two new projects set within the franchise are now in development at the PlayStation studio.

Druckmann was careful to temper expectations. Both projects are in the "very early stages," which means there is no word yet on what form they will take, when they might be revealed, or whether they will be games, expansions or something else entirely. For now, the confirmation is simply that the studio has more stories it wants to tell in this universe.

The announcement landed alongside news about the studio's other big bet. Naughty Dog says it will not show off Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet until 2027. The sci-fi project, first revealed at the end of 2024, has been a source of steady curiosity among fans, and the delay in showing it suggests the team wants to reveal it when there is substantial, polished footage to share rather than another teaser.

That timeline also puts Naughty Dog in an interesting position. The studio is effectively running three tracks at once: a brand new science fiction property with its own identity, plus two fresh entries in one of PlayStation's most valuable franchises. The Last of Us has continued to thrive well beyond the games, and the studio clearly sees more room to grow it.

Fans should not expect concrete details soon. With Intergalactic off the table until next year and the new Last of Us efforts barely out of the gate, this is a long-range roadmap more than a release schedule. Still, it is a clear signal that Naughty Dog's future is busy, and that Druckmann and the team are planning to keep their most famous world alive.
