Marvel Tokon Team Apologizes for Rocky PC Launch, Says Fixes Are Working

Nearly two months after Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls arrived on PS5 and PC, the people behind it are owning up to a lopsided debut. Critics liked the game and PlayStation players were happy, but PC owners ran into a string of performance problems that soured the first impressions.

Speaking to GameSpot, Arc System Works producer Takeshi Tamanaka opened with an apology. The PC version "launched with so many issues," he said, and he acknowledged the worry it caused players. He couldn't blame a single culprit. Tokon ran across a huge spread of hardware and configurations, and several factors combined to produce the different problems people hit.

Patches since August have helped, according to Tamanaka, who cited player reports of better performance and playability. He invited anyone who bounced off the game early to return and see whether the updates fixed their experience. Game director Kazutoshi Sekine pointed out that the response wasn't all negative. Plenty of players logged 100 hours in the first week and enjoyed the game itself.

Balance is the next big concern. Sekine said the team's goal was a chaotic new take on the tag fighter, and that feedback suggests they are on the right track. He admitted that tuning a game like this is hard to explain. The team argues internally about whether a mechanic goes too far or is too strong, much like the community does after launch. Character identity comes first, then the studio leans on its past fighting game work.

Deadpool is a good example. His moveset borrows poses, moves and quotes from fighting game history, which grew from Sekine's wish for the character to leave a big impression. He floated the idea "half-jokingly" to PlayStation and Marvel, and both agreed.

Marvel senior product development manager Michael Francisco said the publisher is happy with the response, pointing to combo videos, new tech and tournament interest from events such as CEO and Tampa Never Sleeps. He enjoys how much tier lists vary. Is Ms. Marvel at the bottom or the top? Where does Hulk land, given he can wipe out a team alone but struggles in neutral? To Francisco, that debate shows a deep, still unsolved game.

On the roster, Phoenix Cyclops is the only confirmed DLC character so far, and Fall 2026 is the target. Francisco said Marvel weighs three things: iconic characters fans expect, characters who can feel fresh in gameplay terms (he cited Magneto hurling pieces of the stage), and potential new favorites such as Danger, The Champion, The Promoter or Phoenix Cyclops.

Tamanaka promised that Arc System Works will keep addressing new issues quickly and supporting the game for the long haul.
