GTA 6 Says Jason and Lucia's Physical Intimacy Will Be Optional
Game News·October 8, 2026

Rockstar North has given its most detailed answer yet on romance in Grand Theft Auto 6. In an interview with IGN, Rob Nelson called physical intimacy a "huge part" of a relationship and said it applies to the game, though the studio has not explained how it will work. "It has to be done right," Nelson said, adding that the team will keep iterating until the approach feels right.
The rating listings offer some clues. The ESRB rating cites nudity and strong sexual content, and an international rating refers to "sex scenes." IGN reported that switching to Jason's perspective can land players on him naked in the shower. Nothing so far suggests those scenes will be interactive. That caveat matters given the franchise's history. The Hot Coffee scandal around San Andreas' PC mod, which unlocked a sex minigame, ended with parent company Take-Two paying out to settle lawsuits.
Nelson also described the pair's bond as something players shape. The story is built around Jason and Lucia working together, but they don't have to be a couple. They can simply be partners in crime. Players can role-play the relationship, which Nelson called "amazing," and the game tracks it through a dedicated relationship system separate from the one that measures how criminal the player is. Spending time together, whether kayaking, playing mini-golf, or robbing stores side by side, is meant to strengthen the bond.
Romance won't come with a gameplay bonus, though. Nelson said the two will keep "working together and having each other's back" either way, but how close they become will affect how their story plays out. He also stressed that the team wants players to be able to opt out. "It's not something that we want to foist upon players," he said.
The Bonnie and Clyde comparison has fans asking whether one or both leads survive, and whether a popular theory that one of them is secretly working with the Feds will pay off. Rockstar hasn't answered those questions. GTA 6 launches November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, so the answers won't take long to arrive.
