Give Grand Theft Auto fans a few minutes of new footage and they will turn it into a full-blown investigation. Rockstar's extended gameplay preview for Grand Theft Auto 6 is no exception, and the latest mystery to grip the community is a geographic one: is Key West in the game or not?

The question matters because GTA 6 is set in Leonida, Rockstar's take on Florida, and the series has always built its worlds from recognizable real-world places. Vice City was a stand-in for Miami, and the Florida Keys have been a fan favorite to return since the first trailer showed island stretches, bridges and coastal roads. Key West sits at the very end of that chain, and its reputation for nightlife, tourists and offbeat locals makes it an obvious fit for Rockstar's brand of satire.

So far, the evidence is thin and the readings differ. Some players point to terrain, road layouts and the general shape of the island chain in the preview as signs that a Key West analogue exists. Others argue that the footage shows nothing conclusive, and that any resemblance is wishful thinking from people who badly want a southernmost point to explore.
