Modern Warfare 4 Fixes Double XP Tokens So Bathroom Breaks Stop Costing You
Call of Duty·September 29, 2026

Activision has confirmed a long-requested quality-of-life change for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4. Double XP tokens will now only count down while you are actually playing a match.
In past games, the token timer kept running whenever it was active. That included time spent in menus and time spent searching for a lobby. Anyone who stepped away to let the dog out, grab a snack or answer nature's call could come back to find a chunk of their bonus gone. Under the new system, those pauses no longer eat into your 2XP. You get the full amount you were promised.
The change was announced through the official Call of Duty account on social media. It is a small tweak on paper, but it addresses a complaint that has followed the series for years, and it should make token boosts feel less like a race against the matchmaking screen.
Infinity Ward is also being open about how the game is shaping up. Several of the studio's developers appear in a newly released "The Road to Launch" video that covers some of the community's most debated topics. They discuss time-to-kill values, the spawning algorithm and UI problems that surfaced across the game's multiple beta rounds. Those are the areas players have criticized most, so hearing the team address them directly is a good sign.
This is the latest in a run of player-friendly news for MW4. Activision previously confirmed that Warzone players will be able to toggle off skins they don't want to see. That option is not yet supported in MW4 itself.
Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC. It is the first Call of Duty release on a Nintendo platform since 2013's Ghosts. It is also the first entry since Ghosts to skip PS4 and Xbox One entirely.
