Halloween's First DLC Digs Into Halloween 5 for a New Michael Myers Skin

Illfonic's Halloween game is getting its first batch of post-launch content on October 27, just days before the real holiday, and the lead item is a surprising pick: a Michael Myers skin based on Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers.

A second killer skin will arrive the same day, borrowing Big Mike's appearance from the legacy sequel Halloween (2018). Each skin costs $10.

Survivor players get their own additions. Two new characters, Michelle and Eugene, will be sold together for $10 as a pair. There is also Civilian Costumes Pack 1, which includes 14 outfits, one for each existing survivor, plus 42 colorings known as tints. That pack is also priced at $10.

Not everything costs money. A free update lands on October 27 and adds a fifth map, The Tower Farm, inspired by a location from Halloween 5. The autumn-themed farmland is more open than the game's earlier maps, which should make it harder for survivors to break line of sight with the killer. The moody setting also suits a release timed so close to October 31.

Illfonic says this drop is the first of several planned for the game's first year. With 13 films in the franchise, there is a lot of material left to draw from, which makes opening the roadmap with the fifth movie an interesting choice. The series' weaker entries clearly aren't being ignored.

GameSpot's writer sees that as the right approach, arguing the studio shouldn't let a sequel's reputation keep it out of the game. Their hope is that Halloween becomes a kind of museum for the whole franchise, including the odder entries such as Rob Zombie's reboot films and Halloween 3, the one movie without Michael Myers. Whether the licensing covers those remains to be seen.

In its review, GameSpot described Halloween as a vibes-heavy experience that suits the classic film, with a unique hook that keeps it from feeling like a rehash of earlier horror multiplayer games.
