Gears of War Gets a $60 Lancer Pizza Cutter and a $46 Pie

Xbox has found a new way to promote Gears of War: E-Day, and it involves dinner. Microsoft has partnered with Prince St. Pizza on a themed pie and a chainsaw-bayonet-inspired kitchen tool: a $60 Prototype Lancer pizza cutter.

The cutter is pitched as a heavy metal piece of kitchen gear, with a stainless steel blade and a handle designed to feel like you're holding the series' signature rifle. It also carries the in-game pizza emblem. It looks great on a shelf, though anyone who has cleaned a pizza wheel with this much sculpted detail may wince at the thought of washing it.

The "Prototype" label is a lore fix. E-Day is a prequel set during Emergence Day, and in the Gears timeline the Lancer wasn't built until a year later. Since a Gears game without a Lancer is hard to imagine, the developers called the early version the Prototype Lancer.

Then there's the food. The Emergence Pie is topped with spicy vodka red sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni and sausage, then finished with spicy Italian chili crisp. Microsoft's blog post describes it as "rugged, relentless, and built to hit hard." It also hits the wallet, at $46 before taxes or delivery fees.

The pie is available now through November 1 at Prince St. Pizza locations in the US and Canada. That's a limited footprint, since the chain has only about 20 locations worldwide, including Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville and New York City. The lone Canadian shop is in Toronto. Anyone who buys the pie gets a code to unlock a pizza emblem in E-Day.

As for the game itself, Gears of War: E-Day launches October 6 on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and it's available at launch through Xbox Game Pass. A $100 premium edition lets players jump in five days early.

The PlayStation question hasn't gone away. There has been plenty of evidence that Microsoft planned a PS5 release, and the company denied making a last-minute decision to cancel a PS5 version, but it never denied that a PS5 version exists. Aaron Greenberg has said E-Day is not a timed exclusive, which some read as a sign it will never reach PlayStation. That reassurance carries less weight given that Greenberg said the same about Starfield in 2021, and Starfield later arrived on PS5.
