Fan Builds a GTA-Style Map of London, and Rockstar Should Take Notes

Ever wondered what Grand Theft Auto would look like if Rockstar moved the action to the banks of the Thames? One fan has decided to stop wondering and start drawing.

YouTuber CityEd has put together a GTA-style map of London, taking the real city and dressing it up in the familiar visual language of Rockstar's open worlds. The result is aimed squarely at people who sit in the overlap between GTA devotees and map obsessives, a crowd that will happily lose an evening to studying a fictional city layout.

The idea is not entirely far-fetched. Rockstar has history in Britain, having started out as a UK-linked studio, and the original Grand Theft Auto games included a London expansion back in the late nineties. Fans have long floated the notion of a full modern London game, with its mix of dense streets, black cabs, river crossings and sprawling suburbs offering plenty of room for the kind of satire Rockstar is known for.

CityEd's map answers the question in the most direct way possible. Rather than pitching a script or a character roster, it focuses on geography, the thing that defines every GTA world. Think of how Los Santos, Vice City and Liberty City are each built around recognisable districts, landmarks and road networks that feel like distorted versions of real places. London, with its famously tangled street plan and distinct boroughs, seems like natural material for that treatment.

Of course, this remains fan work and nothing more. Rockstar has not announced any London-set project, and its attention is firmly on its next big release. Still, projects like this show how strongly players connect to the series' sense of place, and how easily a real city can be reimagined as a playground once the GTA filter is applied.

If nothing else, it is a neat piece of speculation for anyone who has ever looked at a familiar skyline and imagined a wanted level hovering above it.
