Cyberpunk 2077 Gets a Movie at Paramount, With Transformers Producer on Board
Movies·October 9, 2026

Paramount is developing a feature film based on Cyberpunk 2077, adding CD Projekt Red's neon-soaked open world to a growing list of video game properties heading to Hollywood. Deadline reports that Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the producer best known for the Transformers franchise, is attached to produce. CD Projekt Red will also work as a producer on the project.
The deal stands out for another reason. Paramount is also behind the Call of Duty movie, which is set for release in 2028, so the studio now has two of gaming's biggest names on its slate. Michał Nowakowski, speaking for CD Projekt Red, praised Paramount as a partner that shares the developer's creative ambitions for the franchise, and said more details will come at the appropriate time. Paweł Sasko, associate game director on Cyberpunk 2, the sequel now in development, added that he was "beyond excited."
Plenty is still unknown. There is no word yet on a director or cast, and Paramount has not set a release date. The company has committed to releasing at least 30 movies in theaters each year, and the Cyberpunk film will presumably be one of them, though nothing has been confirmed on that front.
The announcement also lands in a period when fans have been anxious about who holds creative control over game adaptations. Larian is not involved in the Baldur's Gate 3 TV show, and Naughty Dog left The Last of Us Season 3 at HBO, prompting concern about how those series will be shaped. A developer that is credited as a producer on the Cyberpunk film is a welcome signal for fans who want the source material respected.
Cyberpunk 2077 had a famously rocky launch in December 2020, but CD Projekt Red spent years patching, updating, and reworking the game. The 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023 helped turn its reputation around, and the game has now sold more than 40 million copies.
