Cities: Skylines Heads to Switch 2 as Sequel's Console Ports Stay Missing
Ports·October 8, 2026

Paradox Interactive has confirmed Cities: Skylines - Expanded Edition for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing Colossal Order's 2015 city builder to Nintendo's newer hardware. Tantalus Media, the studio behind the Switch port of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, is handling the work. The package costs $49 and bundles ten expansions, and it arrives on October 28. Anyone who already owns the Switch 1 version can pick it up at a 70 percent discount.
The port adds a few upgrades beyond the expansions. The buildable area grows to 25 tiles, keyboard and mouse controls are supported, and a map editor arrives alongside finer placement tools and more control over the environment. Players choose between a 30fps mode that favors visual quality and a performance mode that aims for 60fps. Three content creator packs, Holiday Getaways, Mansions & Manors, and Blueprint Beasts Radio, also release that day for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
The announcement also shines a light on what is still missing. Cities: Skylines 2 was supposed to launch on PC and consoles together in October 2023, but the console versions slipped to spring 2024 and then to October 2024. Colossal Order admitted it had not met the stability and performance targets it had set, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are still unreleased more than two years later. In November 2025, Iceflake Studios took over development from Colossal Order and promised continuous work on the editor and console editions. Nothing about console timing has surfaced since.
Tantalus built this Switch 2 port of the original game, not Iceflake, so there is no obvious connection between the two projects. Still, the timing is awkward. The original keeps getting new platforms while its sequel's console plans remain a question mark, and the reveal of Lego Skylines for PC and consoles adds one more unknown to the mix. For now, the Switch 2 release is good news for fans who want the first game on a new machine, but anyone waiting on the sequel for consoles has no firm date to plan around.
