CD Projekt Red Patches Witcher 3 Remaster Lighting After Washed-Out Complaints

Just days after The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered went on sale, CD Projekt Red has pushed out its first patch, and lighting is front and center.

Since launch, players have argued over whether the remaster's new lighting pushes the look of the game too far. Critics said scenes appeared overly brightened and washed out compared with the original. The update, now live on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and the Xbox Play Anywhere version of the game on PC, lists "various lighting adjustments" among its changes.

The studio has not framed the patch as a full reversal of the remaster's visual direction. The wording suggests targeted tuning rather than a wholesale rework, so players who disliked the overall look may want to see how it plays out in practice before drawing conclusions.

The speed of the response is notable. A patch this soon after release shows the developer is watching community feedback closely, and lighting is a sensitive subject for a game whose moody, painterly atmosphere is a large part of its reputation. Any remaster of a beloved title carries high expectations, and visual fidelity to the original mood tends to be scrutinized as much as raw technical upgrades.

The patch also covers other fixes beyond lighting. Players on the supported platforms should be able to download it now, and those who held off on judging the remaster's visuals may find it worth another look. Whether the adjustments are enough to settle the debate remains to be seen, and further tweaks could follow if complaints continue.
