Every week the team pauses the review schedule to talk about what has actually been living on their hard drives, and this round is a pleasingly mixed bag. There is a lot of fur, a fair amount of blood, and at least one person falling in love all over again.

Bertie is still deep in a vampire fantasy and shows no sign of returning to daylight. Kelsey, meanwhile, has settled into the most relaxed posture of the group: curled up on the sofa, quietly breeding an ever-growing army of battle cats. It is the sort of low-pressure loop that turns an evening into three hours without anyone noticing, and Kelsey's enthusiasm for it is hard to argue with.

On the more tactical end, Mat has been busy melting mounted warriors. Anyone who has watched a cavalry charge collapse against the right counter will know the particular joy involved. It is a reminder that strategy games are at their best when a well-timed decision undoes an enemy that looked unstoppable a moment earlier.

Marie, for her part, has been a willing accomplice, which suggests a game built around cooperation or mischief, and probably both. Being talked into bad ideas by a friendly partner is a genre all its own, and clearly a fun one right now.

Rounding things out, Connor has been smitten all over again. There is something reassuring about a game that can win someone over a second time, whether through a new update, a return trip, or simply catching it at the right moment. Sometimes the best thing on your shelf is the one you already own.
