Aion 2 Surges Up Steam Charts Days Before Global Launch
MMO·October 2, 2026

NCSoft's Aion 2 is days away from its worldwide launch, and the numbers suggest Western players have been waiting for it. Even before the official release, the MMO has climbed high on Steam's most played chart, a rare feat for a game that hasn't technically opened its doors globally yet.
The game first went live in Korea and Taiwan roughly a year ago, so this global rollout is a long-delayed arrival for fans outside those regions. That gap appears to have built up serious demand. Early access founders' packs, the paid bundles that let players jump in ahead of the main launch, have reportedly been outselling several major releases on the platform.
Founders' packs are a familiar tactic in the MMO space. They reward committed fans with early entry and cosmetic or convenience extras, and they give publishers a clear read on interest before servers open to everyone. Strong sales at this stage usually point to a healthy launch population, though they don't guarantee players will stick around once the novelty fades.
That retention question is the real test. MMOs live and die on long-term engagement, and a big opening week can quickly flatten if endgame content, server stability or monetization fall short. Aion 2 has the advantage of a year of live data from its Asian launch, which should help NCSoft smooth out problems before they reach a much larger audience.
For now, the momentum is hard to ignore. Sitting among Steam's most played games before the official worldwide date suggests the launch could be one of the bigger MMO debuts in recent memory. Whether it can hold that position once the full player base arrives is what everyone will be watching in the coming weeks.
